Dead leaf butterfly.
No show, this year too.
Every summer, I expected its return for the last 20 or so years.
This is a photo taken about 20 years ago at my place.

127. Vacuum tube
Because of the latest Nobel prize, photomultiplier tubes of Hamamatsu Photonics are in the spotlight, again.
Vacuum tubes play an important role even today in the field of nuclear physics. Its size is said to be 20 inches or 50-cm diameter.
The word, vacuum tube, brings back memories. I just took out a vacuum tube still kept here and took a photo with an acorn picked up this morning at a nearby park. This is a tube of NEC make combining both diode and triode.

126. Shrike calling on withered branch
A new building of so called Alpha Bank or Keiyou Bank was completed next to NHK Chiba. At its entrance side facing the street a replica of a picture I like was exhibited. It was a pleasant experience to encounter such an item on the street corner.

Maintained a birdbox for titmice this year too. Re-painting works only. The same box will be used again this year, though I am ready to make a new one. This is because of the fact that the box has become not deteriorated so much, since I started applying paint on it and also dismounting it during July and August period.
As the same box is used repeatedly for many years, the base wood has cracks and gets very dry. Suspecting it might have resulted in the change of the diameter of the incoming hole, I measured the diameter. It was 27 mm and the same as before.
There are many books about birdboxes. Most of them specify the incoming hole diameter to be more than 28 mm for titmice. However, in my experience, sparrows make nest by entering through the 28-mm hole. Sparrows could be all right. However they nest by littering such bedding materials as straws, etc. sticking out and dangling down from the incoming hole, it indeed looks ugly for me. Becasue of this, I adopted 27-mm diameter for the last 10 or so years. Wiht this diameter, sparrows trying to enter through the hole are unable to do so because their shoulders hit the hole circumference. While titmice go through smoothly.
And most of such books say that applying paint on birdboxes prevent birds to use it. Howerver, in reality, titmice here make nesting every year even if paint is applied, with no difference as before.

123. Start of the equinox week / 2
At Kawamura Art Museum on the first day of the autumn equinox week.

Took Jiro for a walk this morning to a nearby castle-site park.
A shot of a carp from a moat bridge by letting Jiro stand still.
Another one, to a butterfly called here, Tumaguro Hyoumon (hem black leopard pattern) by again making him wait at the bridge foot. This one is female.
The male has wings of the leopard patttern throughout to their tips.
We often see this species these days, because of either the effect of global warming, or widespread growing of its forage plant, pansy, viola, etc.
Probably by both reasons, it has become so common even in this Kanto area.

121. After 25 years
A persimmon at our place has borne its fruit, though only one piece.
Although persimmon fruits are not rare at all, this tree had not borne any fruit after the first bearing of many pieces more than 20 years ago.
Some trials to make it bear fruits failed and we had no more expected its fruits. It is not known what has happened this year.
Old photo indicates the first and the last bearing was in 1990.

Went to Sakata pond park in Narita after a typhoon.
September light is tender as has been expected.
A temple, Enkouji, close to this park is for Jishu sect of the monk Ippen Shounin.
